Beautiful Disaster
December 2006 - HB Mechanical Pencil and Col-erase
This is probably more of a sketch than a drawing, in all technicality, and it was drawn so fast that I know there are things that could use work if I wanted this polished. Sometimes a piece just feels more right as a sketch with gigantic glaring errors and everything, though. Sometimes it just likes to be messy. This is one of those times.
I'm not sure what it is about this piece. I drew it as fast as probably humanly possible while literally feeling crazy one afternoon. Somehow there's just something about the look in his eyes, something about the way he smiles, that just makes me happy when I look at this picture.
The funny thing is that this is Aaron, one of Corey's characters who is never ever happy. In reality he is very sad and very bitter and very broken, and stuck living, as far as he can tell, for all eternity in that state.
Maybe it's the fact that when I see someone hurt like that, I always wish that I could give them happiness. The truly brilliant thing about fictional characters is that it's so easy for me to can do just that. If only everything else were that simple.
